I don’t want to be selfish but how do I keep up what I love?

Answered by Patricia

what I tried….

Made a list of the things that I really love doing and thought about some ways I could do them again. I had a mosaic group that I went to every week no matter what.

what I said….

“I need to spend the next couple of hours on myself, it helps me take better care of Mum.” Being clear and saying out aloud that I was putting some time aside for myself helped me feel okay about taking time out. It also helped my family to support me to maintain this commitment.

what I thought about….

My caring role is important but if I don’t spend time on myself I will be no good to anyone. There are up’s and down’s but it’s important to put time aside for yourself and if something does pop up try to get someone else to step up.

A bit about my me & my caring situation

Patricia cared for Mum with cancer with support from her partner and many siblings. Although it was tough at times they always tried to do things with their Mum’s interests in the centre. Patricia knew it was important to spend time on herself to support her Mum as best she could.
