Caring from a distance

Get a key box there so that people can let themselves in if I can’t make it. And you don’t need to have multiple sets of keys

Personal alarm. I forced it on her, I put the neighbours as the next call on the list – this meant that they could call them and make it there a long time before I could. This meant that when she fell and broke her hip the neighbour was in there in a minute and a half  after she had fallen.

Build a team, in the external place (In the geographical vicinity of the person)

I engaged the neighbours – so if  I called and she didn’t answer they could knock on the door and see if they could help.

I gave written permission to the care provider to speak to the neighbours, and so if they came and she wasn’t home, they could also ask the neighbours if they had seen her. This meant that they could say “I thought I saw her heading off to the shops etc.”

Without this team around my Aunt she would have gone into a home much sooner.
